These are suggestions on how to be prepared to evacuate. A guideline you can add or
delete from.
2-3 HOURS BEFORE EVACUATIONS
1. Albums, photos, home videos
2. Family photos on display
3. Military decorations, records, mementoes, plaques, awards, wardrobe
4. Pack your luggage. Throw clothes on hangers on top of luggage. No need to
pack.
5. Valuable items, cameras, computers, jewelry , purses
6. Heirloom, art, kids art, any collections, pack in bins.
7. Primary cosmetics / shampoo / shaving gear/ facial care / lotions / toothpaste
8. Contact lenses and prescriptions and saline solutions.
9. Get Secondary Vehicles packed
10. Camping equipment, lanterns, tables, tarps, tents, coolers, etc.
11. Journals
12. Kids “can’t live without” toys or games. Special sports gear.
1 HOUR WARNING - Have an Evacuation Back Pack Ready
1. Safeguard Guns and Ammo
2. Pack ice cooler with food and drinks and cooler bricks
3. Birth Records / Passports / Genealogy Records / CASH/ Carry in a backpack
with you all times once evacuated.
4. 3-5 Days food and water supplies / special Diet foods / Vitamins
5. Camping plates, or paper plates, forks, spoons, knives, bottle openers, trash
bags
6. Camping or folding table and pop up tent
7. School books / homework / office supplies/ pens / pencils / calculator / files/
envelopes. Have portable file boxes ready to go.
8. Insurance / Wills / Financial / Medical / Powers of Atty Records. Put in
Backpack.
9. Personal Property Lists, photos, & appraisals, documentation.
10. Video tape inside every room and every closet before leaving the house to have
a record of everything for insurance.
11. Pet Carriers ready with pet beds.
12. Pet food / Pet medicine / Pet collars and leashes / Pet records.
30 MINUTE WARNING
1. Pillows, sleeping bags, blankets
2. Address books, phone lists, contacts of Lawyer, Insurance Agents/Doctors
3. Jewelry and Most Valuable possessions pack in the car now.
4. Personal Hygiene for hotel stays
5. Daily Medications or Supplements
6. First Aid Kit , Medical Items, Walkers, canes, wheel chairs, machines
7. Pet food dishes, bedding and blankets for hotel stay
8. Children’s favorite items to keep with them for comfort and distraction.
9. Batteries, Radios, Flashlights, Solar Powered lights, chargers.
10. Toilet Paper, hand wipes, soap, hand sanitizer.
11. Clothing for a week or two. Shoes. Boots. Socks. Underwear.
12. Computer, Monitors, speakers, laptops, I pad.
13. Gallons of Drinking water for each person.
14. Gallons of water with a spout for cleaning hands and washing.
15 – MINUTE WARNING - Put all these things in the Bug out Back Pack
1. Wallet, purse, keys, extra reading glasses, gate clickers
2. Cell phones and Chargers
3. Emergency Cash or Credit Cards, Gold or Silver
4. Pet Carriers, leashes, food and water. READY.
5. Clothes, shoes, hats, puffer jackets, swimsuit, sunscreen, scarf.

7. Flashlights, extra batteries / lanterns
8. Safety Deposit Box keys. Put in the backpack.
9. Checkbooks, or any property bills, property identifiers, bills with your name and
address. Utilities invoices for disconnection services.

11. PETS / PARENTS/ YOUR KIDS / YOUR SELVES
CRITICAL: Prescription medications, medical devices, eyeglasses, food and plenty
of water.
SAFETY: Sanitation items, first aid kit, flashlight with extra batteries, goves, eye
protection and face coverings or N95 masks that protect against fine smoke particles.
Wear long sleeves, long pants, sturdy shoes and a hat to keep embers out of your hair.
COMMUNICATION: Phones, tablets, laptops, charging cords, hard drives or backups
disks, maps and AM/FM radio. Consider making an emergency plan with important
phone numbers before an emergency.
DOCUMENTATION: Photo identification, driver’s license, birth certificate, social
security card, passport, visa, insurance policy, mortgage deed or rental agreement,
medical records, banking or financial records, etc.
PERSONAL: ATM debit and credit cards, cash, clothing, hygiene items, family photos
and other small irreplaceable belongings.
ANIMALS: Extra water, food, leashes, cages or carriers, medication, identification,
bedding, and vaccination or medical records. Prepare large animals for transport and
consider moving them to safe location early.
ELDERLY OR HANDICAPPED: Make sure elderly family members are evacuated
ahead of time with all medications or medical devices. If you have an elderly family
member who lives alone, have a plan in place with a neighbor or friend to get them out.
