If you are looking for a quiet and secluded getaway in Malibu, then Latigo Beach might be the perfect destination for you. Situated on the east side of Latigo Point, this small and serene beach is a hidden gem that offers a peaceful and user-friendly surf break, tide pools, and breathtaking ocean views.

The History of Carbon Beach

Latigo Beach was formerly owned by Frederick H. Rindge, a wealthy landowner who also owned the majority of Malibu's land. In the early 1900s, Rindge built four houses along Latigo Shore Drive, one of which served as the exterior location for many film sets including the 1945 film "Mildred Pierce." The area was once part of the Roosevelt Highway, which was later re-routed and renamed to become Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Today, Carbon Beach is home to some of the most luxurious and expensive homes in Malibu.

What It's Like to Live in Carbon Beach

Latigo Shore is a very small community comprised of 29 luxury oceanfront and ocean view homes in Malibu. It's probably one of the best-kept secrets for oceanfront homes in Malibu, offering a private location where the beach almost feels like your own. Even though it's hard to find, the real estate here is expensive, with beachfront homes starting at $5 million dollars and higher. The residents of this area appreciate the tranquility of the beach despite its proximity and convenience to PCH.

Recreation and Dining Nearby

Latigo Beach offers easy access to several nearby attractions and dining options. Nearby highlights include the famous Malibu Seafood, which is a local favorite for fresh and delicious seafood. It's a great place to stop for lunch or dinner after spending the day at the beach. For those who love hiking and outdoor activities, there are several hiking trails in the Santa Monica Mountains nearby, including the popular Escondido Falls hike. Other nearby beaches worth exploring include Dan Blocker Beach and Escondido Beach.

Exploring Latigo Beach

The beach faces southeast and is protected from the west by Latigo Point, making it an ideal spot for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing. At the west end of the beach, there are tide pools to explore when the tide is low. It's possible to walk west all the way to Escondido Beach when the tide is out. At the east end, the sand continues to Dan Blocker Beach for more shoreline to explore.

Education

Families with children will appreciate the highly-rated schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, including Malibu High School, Pepperdine University, Malibu Elementary and Webster Elementary School.

Latigo Beach is a hidden gem that offers a peaceful and secluded retreat in Malibu, California. Whether you're looking for a place to relax and unwind or to explore nearby attractions and dining options
