Agoura Hills
Located in the Northern Los Angeles, Agoura Hills is a scenic and family-oriented community nestled between the Simi Hills and the Santa Monica Mountains. Positioned just off the Ventura Freeway, it offers convenient access to both the city and the coast—just 35 miles from downtown Los Angeles and minutes from Malibu’s beaches. With a rich mix of hillside trails, historic charm, and suburban comfort, Agoura Hills is an ideal location for those seeking a laid-back lifestyle with room to grow.
History
Agoura Hills has deep historical roots, first inhabited by the Chumash Native Americans over 10,000 years ago. In the early 1800s, the area became part of Rancho Las Virgenes, a Spanish land grant. It was later home to Don Pierre Agoure, a French immigrant whose name the city eventually adopted—though misspelled as "Agoura."
In the 1920s, the community was known as “Picture City” for its popularity with Hollywood Westerns filmed at Paramount Ranch. By the 1960s, the completion of U.S. Route 101 brought rapid residential growth, and in 1982, Agoura Hills was officially incorporated as a city. The Reyes Adobe Museum, located in the heart of the city, still stands as a tribute to its early Californian heritage.
The Neighborhood
Agoura Hills is known for its charming blend of suburban neighborhoods, open space, and historical architecture. From equestrian properties in Old Agoura to modern homes in Morrison Ranch, the city offers a variety of residential options for families, professionals, and retirees alike.
The community places a strong emphasis on preserving its natural landscape, with tree-lined streets, well-maintained parks, and trail systems that connect residents to surrounding canyons and hillsides.
Nearby
Agoura Hills is rich in recreational opportunities. Residents enjoy hiking and biking through the Cheeseboro and Palo Comado Canyon trailheads, picnicking at Chumash Park, dining at the gourmet restaurants of Wizins Mall, or attending live music at The Canyon Club—a local favorite. The city is also close to Malibu Creek State Park, Lake Lindero Golf Course, and top-rated schools in the Las Virgenes Unified School District.
Shopping, dining, and entertainment options are plentiful, with the Agoura Village and nearby Calabasas Commons offering everything from local eateries to national retailers.
Agoura Hills strikes a perfect balance between historic character, natural beauty, and modern convenience. Whether you’re looking to explore the outdoors, settle into a close-knit neighborhood, or simply enjoy easy access to both the beach and the city, Agoura Hills is a place that truly offers it all.
